January 2021
- Mold and radon testing conducted in 2 rooms in basement
- Health department immediately notified of test results
- Commissioners request quotes for mitigation work
February - March 2021
- Quotes for mitigation work submitted from three contractors
April 2021
- Contractor selected, mitigation work scheduled
May 2021
- Contractor no-show
June - September 2021
- Retirement of Purchasing Department Manager
- Commissioners request follow-up from contractors
2022
- County Administrator retires
January 2023
- Commissioners order Radon Detector for basement monitoring
May - August 2023
- Commissioners re-engage with three contractors for mitigation work quotes
September 2023
- 13th: Fire Department called to APC office
- 14th: Commissioners request radon information from Health Department for employee meeting; Mitigation contractor given notice to proceed
- 18th: Tort Claim Notice received
- 19th: Employee meeting
- 22nd: Initial radon testing began
October 2023
- 6th: Fresh Air Exchange System changed to run continuously
- 9th: Update provided to all Department Heads with Testing Results
- 23rd: Commissioners approve in open meeting up to 25 long-term testing devices
- 31st: Locations and number of long-term testing devices determined
November 2023
- 1st: 20 long-term testing devices ordered
- 9th: Commissioners hold meeting for employees, public, and media
December 2023
- Long-term electronic monitoring devices have been installed throughout the courthouse. Results are available here, updated weekly.
Future Plans
- Air Exchange systems will remain active continuously
- Radon levels will be monitored weekly for the next year
- Potential air circulation improvements will be investigated in certain areas of the basement
- Additional mitigation, including sealing the basement floor, will be evaluated and performed based on monitoring results
